The plastic concrete cut-off wall was successfully completed in May 2015 by BAUER Spezialtiefbau GmbH.

The last panel of the 56,781 m² cut-off wall was finished on May 9th, 2015 in the presence of members of the Engineer (Artelia Eau & Environment), the Chinese Ambassador, the Main Contractor (China International Water & Electric Corp. CWE) and Prof. Dr. Thomas Bauer, CEO of the BAUER Group.

Despite the very difficult soil conditions including extensive rock excavation on site, the cut-off wall works were completed slightly ahead of the specified construction schedule. Approximately 20,000 m² of moderately weathered and slightly weathered basalt had to be penetrated over the entire 2,400 m in length of the new dam structure. Within the Central Area of the proposed dam up to 28 m heavy basalt rock layers had to be excavated to reach the specified toe level of the cut-off wall.

The works were executed by utilizing up to three BAUER cutter units BC 40 and two grab units over a construction period of 14 months.
